#MillionsMissing protestors gather in front of the White House in Washington, D.C. holding up signs saying "Still Sick, Still Fighting," "You can't ignore M.E. now," and more.

#MEAction is dedicated to taking action in places that affect people with ME, Long COVID, as well as other chronic illnesses and disabilities. We are keeping our eye on current policy changes that could change the lives of millions of people. Together, we can come together to uphold basic protections, and fight for change.

PROTECTING VULNERABLE POPULATIONS

504 Accommodations

Take action to protect 504 accommodations: What is Section 504: “Section 504 is part of a law that is more than 50 years old that protects people with disabilities. This law says that anyone who receives money from the federal government cannot exclude or discriminate against people with disabilities. Discrimination means treating people unfairly.

A disability defined by Section 504 is a “physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more major life activities.” A “major life activity” includes walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, learning, working, and eating.

The federal government updates Section 504 rules over time. Thousands of advocates wrote letters to the federal government about what to include in a new update. In 2024, the federal government released an update to the Section 504 rules. States are challenging this update and the legal status of Section 504.
